The murder of Deshon Johnson
Map of the Bloomfield neighborhood of New Jersey.
Location Broad Street and Bay Avenue, New Jersey, U.S.
Date: March 5, 2012; 9-years-ago
c. 10:47 a.m.
Target Deshon Johnson, a.k.a. Sean Cos Mason
Attack type
Murder, by Coach USA bus driver operating an NJ Transit bus.
Motive Anger: The Essex County Prosecutor’s investigation was mishandled.
The person who murders Sean: Wilson Romaine.
Charges: The bus driver never was charged by Sean Cos Mason’s murder.
On Wednesday, July 18, 2012, Johnson, walked through Exxon gas station going to Seven Eleven to buy breakfast and get money for bus fare. At around 10:47:30 a.m the bus driver Wilson Romaine deliberately blew past the bus stop ignoring Johnson waving for the driver to stop.
The bus driver accelerated the bus jumping the curb, aiming the bus towards Deshon Johnson while he was at the front door running him over twice then dragged his life body 50 to 100 feet on Broad Street and Bay Avenue operating the NJ Transit bus. Based on public records it stated that the witness on the bus told Romaine to stop three-time before he mowed the music artist down with the bus. The sidewalk was under construction with no police at the time of Johnson’s death. Johnson was standing at the corner with a Latino man at the corner talk waiting for the bus when he was run over. He was not rushed to the hospital; the police kept his indescribable body on the road until 1:30 pm. Where he was pronounced dead in the middle of the block on Bay Avenue. The day before the incident a witness wrote a complaint on NJ Transit customer complaint site, saying he witnessed the bus driver threatening Johnson. Sadly to say, Johnson’s case was mishandled by the Essex County Prosecutor Detective. In the video, on YouTube, you would hear the detective tell Romaine he did not do anything wrong by killing Johnson, and the attorney for the bus company going to tell the bus driver that he knows the head detective and he will take care of everything. You also will hear the attorney lie and say Romaine has a clean history and record. The bus company redacted the bus drivers’ hearing, vision, employment, and more.
The detective blames Johnson for his death and lies by saying he was running along the bus in the street. And he used two open palms running and banging on the window which is impossible. Considering he had a Seven-Eleven bag that had to be clutched with Vitamin water and a sandwich in the bag that was on the scene.
In the police report, the prosecutor wrote up false allegations saying the bus driver was driving slow and made a wide turn. However, the Exxon gas station shows Romaine speeding close to the curb and the BP gas station shows the bus front wheel went up and down. The back wheel went up and down.
The day of his murder, Johnson retweeted promoting his music five hours before his life was stolen by Wilson Romaine. On July 18, 2012, the bus driver was not giving a speeding ticket, arrested or charged, for the murder of the rapper because the bus company Union kept Romain on the job so he can collect his pension. Until this day the bus driver is still operating the bus and Johnson was killed in vain with no justice. As of today, Deshon’s mother is still fighting for justice. She wrote to most of the politicians like Congressman Donald Pain Jr., Senator Nia Gill, Assemblyman Thomas Gilbline, Congressman Cory Booker, US Senator Bob Menedez, former Governor Chris Christie and to name a few. Sadly to say, they ignore her request.
Naomi spoke to Deputy Governor Sheila Oliver and Governor Phil Murphy and they ignored my request to pass a law to hold the bus driver accountable. Yet, the Governor supports a law for two white men, one man killed by a train Tommy Law and another killed by a car in Metuchen. Deshon’s mother also spoke to freeholder Brenda Gill, emailed Bloomfield Mayor and Councilewomen to get a permitted memorial plaque or street name in honor of my son. Needless to say, they ignore me here too. As of today, July 18th, the hip-hop artist memorial is still being disrespectful by being removed on Bay Avenue nine years later in Bloomfield, New Jersey. She is trying to get Community help from all social justice organizations and they too ignore the disabled mother. As of today she still fights alone for the injustice of her son’s death. Where are the African American communities and Black Lives Matter to help this mother? She stages a protest for her son to get the attention of the injustice death. I guess because this rapper death was not a viral or high-profile case it is being swept under the rug.
In May 2021, new details emerged that Johnson was not running in the street he was on the handicapped curb when the bus driver jumped the curb knocking Johnson in the crosswalk of the street. Then running over his left torso and head.
On July 18, 2012, Romaine gets up to show how he saw Johnson then he lies and says if he saw him he would have stopped. Then the prosecutor and attorney intervene to tell him to sit down. Wilson Romain lies under a sworn oath telling a host of lies. One of the lies he told was that he was not speeding, he was driving slow. The Exxon gas station video showed he was speeding. The bus driver showed no remorse for killing Sean and the Obstruction of Justice by the bus company and prosecutor is terrible.
Legacy
Johnson’s mother, Naomi shared memories of her son before saying how these deadly NJ Transit/Coach USA bus drivers are always driving aggressively on the road with no concern for human lives. After his friend and cross the hall neighbor Christie Noble Ross was killed five days and twenty-seven days before Johnson by a Coach USA bus too. Saying, a heartless Coach USA bus driver operating an NJ Transit with road rage took him away from her.
On July 18th, at 10:47 AM, a cold-hearted bus driver operating an NJ Transit bus used to take my son from me. You know him as Sean Cos Mason, I called him ‘Shon’., because of a killing epidemic caused by a road rage bus driver’s violent temper. I’ll never see my son leaving the house giving me a kiss, saying he loves me, I will never hear him saying I will be right back home from college, he won’t hear his voice over the phone ask me, mom, what time are you coming home from work, he won’t ever take my hands again and dance with me; he won’t come into my room and muscle pose in the mirror. These deadly NJ Transit and Coach USA bus drivers killing people are destroying families and nothing is being done about these egregious behaviors. It must stop. Naomi said it’s painful to know that the bus driver and the other people who cover up her son’s death can go home to their children but my son can’t. They all told her to move on as if her son’s life was of no value. How can a mother move on from her son’s murder It was not like he was sick and she can prepare herself for her son’s death. Johnson only wanted to go to work and help his disable mother and ended up dead.
— Naomi during a “Deadly Bus Driver With deadly attitude Destroys Families” public service announcement.
Johnson’s work ethic was widely praised by his peers in the music industry and at his workplace. Being that Johnson was a few credits away from getting his degree the college President honored him with his posthumous college degree. The executive producer of his posthumous album revealed Mason wrote all of his music. On his Facebook page, you will see all the people he touched praise him for his wisdom and positive words.
A few months after his death, his family announced the creation of the DJCSF, which Johnson had planned to create before his death, intending to help and honor college students with a scholarship. Naomi used to hold a scholarship event to honor the Mayor of Montclair, Councilman Bob Russo, Kean University students, Montclair High School student and Essex County student, Essex County President, Essex County Vice-President and to name a few.
After his earthly departure, Naomi was trying to get several murals of her son created and a billboard to raise awareness of all the lives killed in vain by NJ Transit, and Coach USA hired untrained bus drivers. Regrettably, either dream never came to reality. Deshon’s mother wished that her son’s death was properly celebrated and a successful protest to get action. She hopes one day her son’s death will go viral to create a justice movement, Johnson’s death was compared to the prosecutor’s corruption with Trayvon Martin.
After Johnson’s death, the Real Deal Radio where he performed in West New York did a contribution to Sean Cos Mason. Sean was a rising well-known celebrity that Google compels a Knowledge Panel so his fan can easily find his music. Sean’s music is on all social media streaming music like iHeart Radio, YouTube, YouTube Music, Pandora, Amazon, Tidal, Soundcloud, Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, Deezer, Shazam, Reverbnation Audiomack, Africanmusic, Napster, and other online stores like Tik-Tok, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitch.
Sean was an architect of his feature but Romine stopped that from happening.
